Large Capacity for High-Performance Brewing
This large, heavy duty, Hop Spider stainless mesh filter basket kit comes in two heights, providing a whopping 20L or 5 gallon, or 27L or 7 gallon of volume. Use it to add brewing hops to beer wort or using it with flavorings in making wine or brewing tea or to brew kombucha or making other beverages. Having this much space in the wort, brew or wine is helpful for brewing excellent IPAs or other high hops brew or making other flavorful beverages.
Built Tough with Reinforced Stainless Steel
Constructed from 304 stainless steel, this hop spider features extra banding support along the sides for added strength and durability. Designed to handle heavy loads without warping or collapsing.
Multi-Purpose Brewing Filter
Use this filter basket for:
- Beer brewing (wort hopping & dry hopping)
- Wine flavoring additions
- Kombucha tea brewing
- Herbal and specialty beverage infusions
Easy Setup & Flexible Mounting Options
- Rest the hop spider directly on your kettle using the built-in arm
- Attach to a hoist using the included stainless quick link
- Secure to kettle or fermenter with the side hook
For deeper immersion, an optional stainless cable kit can be used to suspend the spider further into your brew (contact us to have this built for you; let us know the total length you want, including the two long-link stainless quick links that we will provide, cost will be about CAD40/USD30).
Dry Hopping Made Simple
The hop spider can be used after yeast addition by suspending it inside compatible fermenters using sanitary caps with hooks.
Tip: Sanitize easily by leaving it in the fermenter during the boil (BREWHA system compatible).
Better Than Traditional Hop Bags
Unlike hop bags, this rigid stainless design:
- Maintains shape when removed
- Prevents squeezing unwanted particles back into the brew
- Improves clarity and reduces trub contamination
Optimize Extraction & Brewing Performance
- 600 micron mesh balances filtration and flow
- Keeps hops contained while allowing maximum liquid movement
- Prevents excessive yeast and trub buildup
- Stir occasionally during brewing for best extraction
- Keep mostly submerged to avoid surface clogging
Product Specifications
- Material: 304 Stainless Steel
- Mesh Size: 600 micron (≈30 mesh)
Dimensions:
- 27L (7 gal): 43 cm (17") height
- 20L (5 gal): 34 cm (13.5") height
- Diameter (both): 29 cm (11.4")
Recommended Capacity
- Up to 700g (24 oz) whole leaf hops (20L is about 30% less)
- Up to 1400g (48 oz) hop pellets (20L is about 30% less)
A 600 micron pore size (about 30 mesh) is a good compromise between keeping your hops out of the brew, while letting maximum water pass through and minimal yeast or trub coating the sides. During the brew it is recommended to stir occasionally for full extraction. At the surface of the brew, yeast or other solids from the wort can coat the mesh so it is best to keep it almost fully immersed where possible so fluids can easily pass through the mesh and the high level of yeast at the top doesn't coast the mesh.
Hop Spider vs Hop Basket
Looking for a smaller option?
Our Hop Basket (≈4L / 1 gallon) features:
- Screw-on lid
- Slightly larger 1mm mesh
- Solid bottom design
- 1000 mesh screen (1mm)
Best for homebrew setups (5–15 gallon batches), while the Hop Spider is preferred for larger or commercial brewing.

This is a nice bit of gear. Well built and sturdy. Great for up to 1bbl brew kettles. I bought it for my 2bbl setup though hoping it would work but its just too small for that and my whirlpool hops just dont get the contact time, as it quickly setles with the basket No fault of the product though. Great value for price.
Works great to keep hops and other solid adjuncts out of my chiller. For reference, I'm brewing 3 bbl batches.
Just finished a batch of IPA using the large hop spider for dry hopping suspended in my fermenter with Nathan’s new cap design (has a welded eye to attach the hop spider) beer has noticeably more aroma, less hop debris, and a easier clean up overall beer is clearer, and bursting with big hoppy flavour my opinion there is no better way to dry hop in the brewha system
